For safety reasons I opted for the heat gun and not a burning candle. I used white glue on some parts of the paper and clear glue in some places. After heating and bubbling the glue I spread black gesso over everything then hit it again with more heat.
After everything was dry, I used my fingers to smear gold acrylic paint over the brown paper, leaving some areas black to give a contrast. When everything was very dry, I punched out all the leaves.
I stamped Grace (I have used her so much iI figure we should give her a name), on to card stock and did gold and black colours on her gown, fussy cut ready for the leaves to be glued on. My original thought was to do a small cascade of leaves.
The part of my brain that says "throw everything at it except the kitchen sink" took over and before I know it Gracies entire gown was covered. I paper pieced the bodice.
I stamped a grungy stamp on the bag, spritzed it with water and added a few streaks of Viva Gold 3d paint. It looks a bit orange in the photo but in real life it is a terrific rusty colour. Finally Grace was glued to the purchased gift bag.
This bag is for my girlfriends birthday, I will pud a gardening magazine in it and some packets of seeds.
Thanks so much for looking, sorry I am a bit late but this took way longer than I thought. MariLynns technique is terrific, I hope you check it out.

I didn't even finish reading your details and went straight to MariLynn's challenge. I'll find and watch the video shortly.
OMG, WOWZA, SPECTACULAR, STUNNING, INCREDIBLE, MAGNIFICENT, and on and on. If there is a double/triple Favorites category this would be on it! I don't know where to begin, I love that you don't have a creativity filter! I love "Grace" (perfect name for her)! She actually reminds me of a Flamingo dancer and love the bow giving the illusion its from her bodice. Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! Your friend will save the bag forever. An extra special HUGAROONIES for you~

It just gets Better and Better!!!!! I Love it when that little part of your brain says "The heck with it!....just go for it!"...."In for a dime, in for a dollar"..."You know you can't just walk away and leave (pun intended) it alone!". Those little brain parts tend to give us a hard time sometimes, don't they? Fantastically done! Ah, there does appear a shiny little section of the kitchen sink peeking through between the leaves. I bet you thought you had covered that up?
What a Gorgeous Fall outfit!!! The touches of gold are stunning! What a Great idea grunging the bag! And I love the beads in her hair, the very dainty bow, and the gold cord and raffia on the bag handle! "Grace" is Good! It fits her. Anxious to see what you come up with next for Grace. Don't quit yet....listen to that little brain part!

Oh my goodness I nearly fell off my seat opening and looking at this gift bag. Susie this is amazing! You have taken this image to a whole new level adding the leaves, she looks like Grace is a work of art and should have a name as she has surely just popped up to perfect beauty in this leafy elegance. I am so glad to see you join in this MIX challenge with this beauty.

Bestill my heart Susie! This is another "Susie Monet" masterpiece of perfection in every possible way! My brain is still not quite functioning the way it should because I am still trying to take in every little detail you tucked into this amazing gift bag! I absolutely love that you have named her Grace - it is so fitting! Thank you for sharing this video link because I have never heard of this technique before and I so happy to know about it. Susie, I want to thank you for listening to your heart and your intuition and "just going for it" creatively because that inspires so many of us to reach out of our comfort zones too! Truly! And, best of all, you are such a joy/gem of a person too! Hugs! ~Karen.
