I did my flower pounding with the help of my cuttlebug. I folded a piece of wax paper and placed my card stock between the layers. Because marigolds are a very thick flower, instead of simply using the entire flower, I pulled off the petals, i.e., he loves me, he loves me not, he loves me... and set them randomly on my card stock. It was interesting to see that those face down left deep color where the petal lay, and those face up left a negative impression with the color surrounding the area where the petal lay. The picture shows the color of the flowers I started with. The lower piece was done with just flower petals and the top background was just the yellow flower centers spread randomly over the card stock. I used plates A, B & C to run this through my machine.
I stamped the sunflowers directly on the background & added color with a blender pen and ink pads.

Ha, yes - I thought I was going to have to resort to marigold petals as being almost all that was in the garden, and I knew that petals would be the only way to go. Yours make a wonderful background for your beautiful sunflower. I think you deserve bonus points for being maybe the only person so far to add a stamped and coloured image and not just a sentiment to your floral background!! This really makes me think of Van Gogh...

You got some really pretty variations of color from the marigold petals and that bit of black framing makes the wwhole thin gjust pop The verically placed faux brads make for nice contrast with the diagonal cut below.

What an interesting technique! And you achieved wonderful results with it too! I love these bright, happy sunflowers and the sentiment is fabulous (I seem to have put my grumpy pants on lately and this was a good reminder I don't need them anymore- smile). I really love what you have created here! ~Karen.

Melody, your marigold bg is FANTASTIC! I'm sure it took awhile to get all those individual petals placed "just so".....but the end result is more than worth it. A BEAUTIFUL and cheery card.
