The sketch required a wavy horizontal element and a roundish element, so right away I thought of the Swirly Scribbles die set and my treasured 1999 SU stamp set called Cottage Rose.
I did the two-step stamping of the rose onto Very Vanilla cardstock (aligning the two stamps with my Stamp-a-ma-jig), then hand cut the rose out with scissors.
The horizontal feature was a little tricky because I had to cut two pieces of the gray cardstock seperately since the die is not symetrical along it's horizontal sides. Then I used the two cut edges of the gray cardstock as the upper and lower borders of my open space and hand trimmed the squiggle to fit the narrower space than the die normally requires. I did this to limit how much open space blue would show through.
The rose was then mounted using foam to give depth to the card. The sentiment was from the Sassy Salultations set, and stamped with Calypso Coral.
The only really tricky part was to get the two seperate pieces of the gray panel to fit the 5"x3.75" space leaving enough room for the squiggle.
I think it's a different take on the sketch challenge than most crafters would take, and holds true to both color and layout of both challenges.

What a beautiful vintage rose! I love the way you used the modern wavy diecut behind to draw the eye towards it. Thanks for joining us over at Create With Connie and Mary this week!

Such a pretty birthday card Donnaks! I love how you trimmed the space between the die pieces so it takes up less space - it highlights your gorgeous rose so beautifully! Thanks for joining us this week at Just Add Ink, Jan :-)
That was brilliant to use the swirly lines behind your beautiful flower - it looks grounded that way! Pretty card! Thank you for joining us at Create with Connie and Mary!
