This is my sample card for Robin's fun Free for All challenge. I figure mermaids ate permanently cool...and wet! To find out all the details of the Keep Cool challenge, just click click here .
I had a heap of fun making this Bendi Fold card using the great tutorial found here at SCS. I am having trouble adding the link, but just click on Tutorials and type Bendi fold into the search box.
This background is a bit of a mixture. I started by scribbling zig markers onto a sheet of acetate, spritzing with water then pressing cardstock onto the acetate. The colour wasn't quite gutsy enough so I used the smack & squirt technique (smack distress ink pad onto al foil, squirt on water) and smooched the cardstock around in the inky puddle.
Before assembling the bendi fold pieces I scrubbed a bit more distress ink onto the front panel, by making the front panels darker, it creates an illusion that light is coming from the top of the rear panel. I did a bit of stenciling and stamping, the seaweedy looking stamps are a terrific acrylic stamp by Kaisercraft, the fishnet is Prima and everyone knows who the little girl is LOL.
Like always I started out trying to give her fair hair...when I stuff that up, it's easier to move onto to auburn colour....on a bad colouring day it would have ended up black!!
My little mermaid, Dory Louise, complete with navel bling, has been coloured with distress inks and inktense pencils. A few liquid pearls were drizzled here and there along with some gold 3D Viva paint.
Growing up we spent hours and hours at the beach. My brothers searched for sunken treasure while I searched for mermaids. On laundry day, mum would let me take my pillowcase to the beach.....I would hop into a pillowcase, somehow tie it around my waist and then put one foot (which was inside the pillowcase) into a single flipper. It was impossible to walk so I would roll myself over and over until I got into the water.
Ahhhh the gold old days when you could look totally ridiculous in public and not have a care in the world. Thank you for looking and I hope you get a chance to join in.

Fantastic card, Susie! I've scrolled back up to look at the marvelous details so many times. Love the starfish in her hair and hey, blond hair looks darker in the water! You really nailed the dimensional look with the bend and the colors. Wowzers, this rocks!!
Now on to your story, please post a warning to not have drunk coffee prior to something this funny. Fortunately, I contained myself and my laptop is safe. What a fun memory, your mum sure knew how to encourage creativity!!!

Could you call my boss and tell him that I need at least a week of paid vacation so I can sit and absorb all the great ideas in your gallery. I need to list your beautiful color combos, terrific layouts, and wonderful borders. This us soooo well done, especially all the little details. Love this cool little undersea scene.

You must know Susie that I just love mermaids and in my next life I am coming back as one. So I will start growing my hair (which used to be blond) - some serious peroxide will be needed to change - don't think they have grey mermaids. Mermaids, seahorses and pearls - my ultimate dream. I would have joined you on the beach when you were a kid - pillowcase, flipper and all. What a great pair of mermaids we would have made. PS - just love all the details in this lovely card.
