The trick to paper piecing is to envision your layout and begin die cutting your background with the elements that will be in the "back" of the design. Cut out the color piece you want in that negative space and use transparent tape on the back of the background piece for the inserted colored element to hold it in place. Then proceed cutting the next layer in the same fashion. Always insert your color pieces before cutting out the negative space for your next layer. This card had 4 layers: leaves, dark orange flower, pale coral flower, and then the yellow flower centers.
I tried just using the yellow flower centers plain, but found I liked them a WHOLE lot better if I lightly sponge brushed each tip (stamen) with Calypso Coral, then brushing the tips against the black ink pad.
Note that the flower petals had each been lightly sponged with Calypso Coral to give more depth to the flowers. Leaving them plain didn't make them pop the way I wanted them to.
I was tempted to stamp some random leaves on the white background, but it would have taken away from the centerpiece of the paper pieced design.

I love how you inlaid the flowers back into the card! That looks like it took a lot of time and patience but it paid off! Beautiful card! Thanks for playing along this week at TGIF
