Hot summer nights, bring out the fireflies. But as every child, and every adult with the heart of a child knows, there are no such things as fireflies. They are really tiny little fairies, flying about and having fun.
To make this card mask off the area for the moon with a 2.5 inch post-it paper circle. Starting with the lightest color of blue, Marina Mist, start sponging on the masked paper moon, drawing circles and extending the color outwards. Do the same with Tempting Turquoise, always starting on the paper mask. This avoids blotches of color in the sky. Using Night of Navy, sponge all around the edges to obtain a very dark border. I am so sorry that the Word of dreams stamp set has been discontinued. These silhouettes of grasses and branches are perfect for a night scene. I colored the wings of the fairy, both on the paper and on the vellum with Mint Macaron, as it so reminds me of the color of the night fairies (aka fireflies for the non believers). Use the transparent Wink of Stella on the wings, hair and dress. Pink Pirouette marker for the arms and legs Using a reverse mask, spritz only the moon with any shimmery mist you have to make it shine even more.
I held a class with 3 beginners (including a 12 year old) who had never stamped, and they easily made this card and loved the technique. I think I may have 3 new stamping addicts in the making.
