Susanne gave us a BIG challenge. My card goes to Dea, who is a star with mixed media. I wanted to give some texture to this mermaid so I embroidered her fin with metallic thread and wrapped the thread around her microbead encrusted crown and bra. I gave her a face with sparkly emerald eyes. I used the smooth, creamy Michael's watercolor crayons we have been gabbing about for the waves and blended the colors with water. They have a soft shimmer. I wanted a hot sun so the golden glitz helped enhance the heat. The mermaid's unusual colors are a nod to Dea's unconventional nature and play into the idea of a mirage. She blends right into the colors of the sea and sky - so who can really tell if she is real or imaginary? Perhaps just a sparkle in the sun that looked like a mermaid flashing by.
I hope you enjoy the fantasy...

Um.....your embroidery just kicked my 'tag challenge' off the road trip to creativity sister!!! Having visuals of you strapped to the back of your hubby's body and motorcycle seat, moving at warp speed, wind blowing through your hair... you biting the embroidery needle-threading this needle with your teeth and index fingers to sew itsy bitsy glass beads to perfect this lovely mermaids tail in place...oh with the glass bead container tucked into hubby's collar for easy access!!! UNBELIEVABLE!
