The current Serendipity Stamps challenge is die-cutting.
And Janelle's MIX challenge yesterday was to be inspired by wallpaper.
Well, I did manage to visit a store that has wallpaper - but since my hands were full of preserving jars and my camera was buried under a pile of library books in my backpack, I didn't take a photo of them. But there were a couple of collage-style ones with birds and cages...and since this die-cut cage was on my desk as a reject from something else during the week, and I need an anniversary card in a couple of weeks for DH, that's the way I went.
DH was really taken with the Envelope Fold which was my WT sample this week, and I really wanted to try Melissa's tutorial (orange link above) , so I also incorporated that.
Base is black card. I used green for the frame, and added some die-cut ivy leaves. The base is just hand-fringed card, and since it was going to have a fold-line in it from the card style, I just distressed the whole thing a bit anyway.
The birds were cut from watercolour paper and sponged, Liquid Pearls and Enamel Accents for the eyes and beaks. The hats were just cut from scraps.
For the background, I used some lightweight watercolour paper and randomly stamped the music background over it with Smokey Grey. Then I brushed it with water, added Brushos in yellow, blue, and a little brown across the bottom, and misted it with water. Afterwards I spritzed it with gold acrylic shimmer mist. Because it's light paper (90lb) it wasn't too bulky to use to line the card. I added the cage and a couple of die-cut hearts, and cut a branch for the bird to perch on, attaching it to the back of the green frame.
And then I just added a die-cut anniversary greeting.
