When my kids were in school, they always needed covers for all their books. I was an expert book cover maker. I used brown paper bags. Then I would do fancy lettering for the class subject. Any extra artwork or doodling was up to them. Usually my daughter would fill the entire cover - front and back - with doodles and pictures. My son -- not so much.
I sketched the sentiment and vines with pen and filled them in with colored pencils (or inktense pencils, since they were on my table). Then I punched lots of tiny flowers and glued them along the vines. I added the centers with a Pitt pen. Of course, if you have flowers, you also need butterflies. The green strip would have been green galore, but I couldn't find a scrap, but I found gable green, so I just swiped my green galore ink pad over it. A line of faux stitching pulls it all together.

OMGoodness......as a retired teacher, I truly appreciate your brown paper bag creativity......I used to save bags all year so that those who didn't get paper bagged groceries had no excuse not to keep their books covered

What a lovely story! I enjoyed it - and I bet those book covers were lovely, especially your daughter's after she added all her own artwork. Brilliant take on the challenge and a beautiful card, with an inspiring message.

Blast to the past! I had forgotten how we covered our books like that. Love how you did your card in honor of those brown bag book covers. It's really cute. TFS

This is lovely!!! Great coloring!! I doodled all over my paper bag book covers too! Now my girls have to use cloth ones, so disappointing & expensive...
