TodayÂ’s Technique Challenge (TLC570) turned out to be a REAL challenge! My first attempt was a disaster! It shredded the card stock & it broke the plastic stencil into a multitude of pieces. Oh well! So I used something I knew would work, because IÂ’ve done many timesÂ…I used a piece of plastic canvas (from the cross stitch section) to emboss. These plastic & mesh canvases are much tougher than stencils & are also much more flexible.
Even so, I still had trouble trying to run it through my Big Shot. So I pulled out my old standby..my original OlÂ’ Red Sizzix, so I could apply the amount of pressure I knew would work. I had a 6″ round piece of plastic canvas & to make it fit OlÂ’ Red, I cut it in half, misted the heavy card stock lightly, then embossed it onto the card stock. I like how it mimics the round stacked rocks of the well. I went with some different colors for the well then die cut it w/ a Double Stitched Circle. The outer ring was colored to match & put back.
Thanks so much for looking! Closeups, the inside & Copic colors are on my blog: The Write Stuff

Beautiful card, Julie! I love the colors you used which create a beautiful butterfly and wishing well. BTW, I still have my Ol' Red Sizzix! It truly is a good standby, and it will stay in my crafting tool box probably forever!

Wow, your plastic canvas is much prettier than mine, Julie!! Love the circle shape, which picks up so well on the little well and adds to the garden feel. Thank you for persevering... the results were certainly *well" worth it.

Exactly what I thought about the cobblestones around a well! Love the look your semi circle of embossing gives your card. It really grounds the well perfectly. Beautiful colouring as well. I too still have an 'Old Red' in my armament. Comes in handy at times!

So glad you didn't give up because it turned out amazing!! I love how the embossed canvas looks like cobblestone blocks!! I have to confess...due to my limited stamping time, I detest trial and error so much that I rarely ever try anything new...sad, huh? lol!!
