Some of you may have seen my blog before but I'd hazzard to guess many of you wouldn't know why I call myself PENNY FLOWERS. Allow me to enlighten you. From about 2004-2007 I took a great interest in Floral Paper Sculpture and started to create my own flowers using punches.
A few friends encouraged me to write a book but while I could do that... I sure couldn't afford to have it published. After much thought I decided that to write the type of book I would like publishing costs wouldn't allow it however, if I wrote it as an eBook... then that's another story.
In 2008 PENNY FLOWERS was born. Since then punches are not used all that much but it doesn't matter where one gets the shapes from... whether it be punches, dies, compurised machines like the Cricut or cutting them by hand. So while I thought for a while my eBook was outdated... it sure isn't.
It wasn't long after I wrote PENNY FLOWERRS that I put together my ULTIMATE ROSE pdf. While this rose was not my original creation, I tweaked it to make it mine. The name wasn't named so because of vanity thinking my rose to be the 'ultimate' but because at the time it was the name of the glue I felt to be the best available.. since then others have surfaced that meet the grade.
It was late 2007 that the same friends who pushed me to write PENNY FLOWERS that pushed me to enter a flower arrangement in the Royal Melbourne Argicultural Show. 2008 was going to be the first year they had included a floral arrangement, made by hand, of any medium.. It didn't matter what it was made from however, the medium you chose had to be used for the entire arrangment. Now I don't like competitions.. it's just a me thing... I just don't think I have the right to say my work is better than someone else's. However, I said I'd give it a go and here is my entry. I am humbled to say I won that year. I never entered again.
Anyone who would like a copy of my eBook.. please contact me privately and I would be more than happy to email you a copy. It's in pdf format and a big file (abt 11meg). Now you know a little more about me Today I still make my flowers and have created quite a few more flowers since writing PENNY FLOWERS.
