I made this card for the Technique Lovers Challenge, TLC564 - Rags to Riches - (12/14/15). This was a multi-facetted challenge.
1) We were to use something that had been trashed or leftover.
This card is filled with leftovers, which I NEVER consider trash...ha...and my scrap pile is a testimony to that! The doily was one that had crushed edges that made it nasty looking, so I mounted it off the card front and cut off the torn edges. The heart and partial olive branch were leftovers from an earlier card. The tag was one that I had stamped the sentiment in the wrong place the first time and was so annoyed I refused to toss it. (This explains my ever growing "possible box" that contains flubbed sentiment panels.). And last but not least, the Kraft card base was a discard because I messed up when I was sponging white ink over the woodgrain texture - I dropped the ink pad and mad a horrible smear. Note the upper right corner of the card front.
2) We were to use 2 different techniques. I used 4 that I can identify - smearing ink, die cutting, stamping, and spraying (DIY shimmer spray.)
3) We were to include something shiny. For shiny elements I added tiny rhinestones, a heart shaped rhinestone and then spritzed the entire card front with DIY Shimmer spray.
In case you are wondering what is in DIY Shimmer Spray, I used Ranger Perfect Pearls powder, Pearl color and mix it with water and put in a spritz bottle. I used to mix up small batches in one of those mini misters, but I soon learned to up-size to a 6 oz sprayer so that I didn't have to mix it up as often. I used a recycled facial toner bottle that had a fine mist spray top. I think I used about 1/2 teaspoon of the Perfect Pearl powder and filled the bottle nearly full. Also added a couple of Quartz nuggets from a jewelry project to act as shakers inside the bottle. This really made a difference in how quickly the powder mixed with the water. Since the powder settles to the bottom of the water solution between uses, it is really important to shake the mix before spraying in order to get that nice shimmery look without unsightly blobs.
This was such a fun card to create! It was like piecing together a puzzle that had parts that were never intended to fit together. After making this I want to dig deeper into my scraps, leftovers, and mistakes and see what treasures might be lurking.
Bet you, too, have some dandy leftover card parts and pieces that are just begging to be played with. Why not join the fun and make a card for the "Rags to Riches" Challenge?
Thanks for stopping by and looking at my heart card!

Never would have thought this was made with leftovers! Lovely card, and I like that sentiment - perfect for a Christmas greeting for someone who might have gone through a loss or a bad year, when "Merry Christmas" might not be appropriate.
