This image was supposed to be for the latest OCC watercolor class. Unfortunately I made a hot mess and ended up coloring over the watercolor with Prismacolors.
The image is an outline sticker from Elizabeth Craft Designs, applied to the smooth side of Distress watercolor paper. After butchering the watercoloring and trying to fix it with Prismacolors, I fussy cut around the frame and matted it with the same rust cs as the bottom layer. That layer was cut with a SSS stitched rectangle die and adhered to the base with Sookwang tape. I added the polka dot layer, adhered the matted image with foam tape, and added the greeting that I had cut from the same rust cs.
I liked it, but there was something kind of blah about it, plus there was no tie-in with the black sticker. I used border line stickers to frame the patterned paper and cut the greeting from black cs to layer over the one in place on the card base. Nope, that wouldn't work - too much black and it was matte, whereas the stickers are shiny. It took my poor brain a while to remember that I could clear emboss the black greeting and it would match the shiny stickers. Unfortunately, the big black sentiment overpowered the whole thing. SOOOO I die cut the sentiment again in rust cs and layered it over the black with a slight offset and then layered that on top of the original sentiment. Good grief, I didn't know I was so particular! To finish it off I dipped a small paintbrush in gold spritz and painted over the flower center; I repeated that step on the petals using sparkle spritz.
I have a tip that might help with layering die cuts - I keep a small piece of an old Cricut mat on my desk and stick the bottom die cut to it to hold it still while I'm layering. It's tacky enough to hold the die cut but still release it easily once your layers are adhered. Works great!
As always, thanks for looking!

What a beauty, Jody, and in such a delightful array of those fall colors!! I would have liked to be a fly on the wall, listening to you figure how you were going to make this work satisfactorily for your "perfection level" ! It turned out magnificently I must say, and you should be proud - also love the tip about layering die cuts!! Thanks for doing the hard part for us!! Hugs!
