Brenda and Nancy (aka Tessaduck and stiz2003) are jointly hosting this weeks Teaparty for the very wonderful (and wounded) One4Joy aka Susan. Susan has trained for almost one year for a big bike race, unfortunately Susan had a bad bike accident, shattered her clavicle and now requires surgery. I know our cards won't put Susan back on the road for this yearÂ’s race, but I do hope a little bit of Teapotter love will bring some sunshine and smiles.
Not everyone can wear lycra, but I think Annie Londonderry and her husband, Max Kopchovsky can pull this look off. Did you know that Annie was the first woman to bicycle around the world!!!
As you can see they are both sponsored by Nike. Annie and Max's shorts and matching boots were hand drawn then cut from scraps. I cheated a bit with their legs and cut strips of black cardstock to shape, then added some spots and stripes using a white paint pen before sticking them on the card.
The picture looks a bit foggy, I think this is due to the Izink ink I used on the background along with distress inks (both applied using the smack & squirt technique). I also swished a silver brilliance ink pad over the bike; it looks good in real life, but not so good in the photo.
I think I mentioned once before that I could only ride my bike in a straight line and I couldn't ride around corners. Mum would stand out the front of the house; wave us off to school until we got to the corner, where upon I would fall off in spectacular fashion every day and from there I would walk my bike to school!! This was before protective clothing and bike helmets - hmmm I wonder if that is what's wrong with me. I never had the heart to tell my parents I couldn't ride and that I didn't want a bike LOL.
I sort of caused a bike accident a few years ago. A girlfriend dragged me along to a free open day at her gymnasium. Not being terribly athletic, I was on the walking machine minding my own business, when an instructor walked past and turned the speed up. I flew off the back of the treadmill and crashed sideways into a lady on an exercise bike - unfortunately there were about 10 bikes in a row ......they all fell off like dominos. Funny enough I was not pressured in to signing up for gym membership.
I had better sign off and get this in the mail. Thank you for looking.

LOVE this card and love those bird legs! Wish I could draw and enhance like you do and your background, as always is spectacular. I choked with laughter on Diet Coke reading this and although I love the bike, I KNEW I would die on a treadmill! About Lycra, that stuff stretches at least 8 sizes and at least are bigger than the dreaded swim suits. Love this guys shorts too! Susie, this is brilliant and SO darned fun!

Ha, Susie, brilliant - love their matching lycra!! Growing up on a busy road, I did not ride a bike as a kid (although my brother & sister did ... hmmm) - my first bike ride, ever, I was 19 and I went with some GFs on a 13km bike ride to a dam in the country, near Armidale!! True story and I survived!

Hee Hee, very fun card! LOVE the legs and lycra attire. Great stories (yours and the "couple), too. If I were you, I would stick to walking. LOL xx BTW, my first "grown up" bike was a purple Thunderbird, a gift from my G'pa Jahnke. I LOVED, LOVED that bike. I traveled many miles on it and had countless adventures. I sometimes pretended it was a race horse or that I was a cowgirl riding across the western desert. Wow, haven't thought about all of those happy memories for a LONG time. Thx for reminding me.

Terrific card as always Susie! The little Nike symbols are cracking me up.
That sounds like something out of a movie! Never mind they didnt offer you a membership-they are lucky you didnt sue them! It was caused by their staff member! I'm against suing most of the time but that was one DA move.
Nowadays there are bike lanes and huge long paths but when I was a kid there was nothing. We rode on deserted, broken down elevated highway sections full of broken glass, weeds, etc. No helmets. The only people who wore helmets then were hockey and football players, and the elbowing roller derby people.

Susie - I am so glad you commented on my card - made me come and check out what you had been up to and I find this amazing card with great stories to boot. Riding a bike is one thing - dodging all the crazy cars is another round here. I hope Susan comes through her surgery without pain and gets better quickly.

And don't worry I can't ride a bike either. DH bought me a bike a couple of years ago. The first time I got on it, I crashed into his 1970 GTO that he had just restored. Thank goodness the car didn't have a scratch on it. I can't say the same for the bike or my face.
Needless to say the bike went to Goodwill the next day.

What a fabulous card for the injured - and now recuperating - Susan! Your innovative ideas for creating legs and a bike for these two Nike-bedecked crazy birds is phenomenally funny! It may not get her back into the race for this year, but for sure, it will keep her amused, just reading of your early escapades on a bicycle. Your story is so entertaining, I will not have to visit the library for a good read for a while - I laughed till the tears ran down my cheeks - thanks for the smiles - for Susan and for me!!
