I created this mixed media piece after seeing the call for "CCEE1530 - Watercolor Bokeh" from CCEE Stampers. The technique looked intriguing, but after looking at the instructions, I realized I don't own the inks that the tutorial referred to. So, instead, I decided to create the effect with watercolors and pastels. I still used the idea of circle overlays with templates and the general design theme.
I also have to give credit to our design team member Dorlene Durham, as without her inspiration on mixed media pieces, I would have never come up with this design.
The basic idea was to create a green/blue/lilac watercolor wash in the background. Then I overpainted circles (I used a tape roll as a template) in darker shades of the same colors. then I drew the lavender with a pencil. I colored the lavender with pastel pencils, outlined with a sharpie.
I painted some bubble wrap and drywall tape with white acrylic paint and stamped on as accents.
I used a black copic marker to draw some highlights here and there. Stamped the butterfly and colored with pastels. Sprayed fixative over the whole piece. Wrote the words on plain paper, adhered to piece, and touched up with pink and lilac pastels and copics. I had no idea what I was going to do when I started....
