I am still at the cabin with limited art supplies so needed to be creative in my interpretation of the 4th of July and placemat challenge. As the title suggests, I am using light as a symbol of our freedom declared on July 4th. This idea came to me as I wondered through the placement Pinterest site as my eyes kept gravitating toward the many candles used for table decorations. One picture in particular caught my attention: http://pinterest.com/pin/311522499202435467/ A table lit by candlelight.
Clored pencil drawings with Prismacolo pencils are super labor intensive so I drew most of the night. This particular drawing was done following a lesson from "Painting Light with Colored Pencil" by Cecile Baird. To achieve the rich colors and luminessence I applied 16 layers of various colors interspersed with layers of burnishing. Hope you enjoyed viewing my creation!
