I read the Mix challenge today and you'd think living on Cape Cod, I'd have shells - nope. What I do have is a beautiful collection of "sea glass". For those unfamiliar with this, it's glass that's been in the ocean so long that it's smooth and has a frosted appearance from being tumbled in the salt, sand and waves. It's sometimes used to make jewelry. I placed 8 pieces of sea glass on my paper and then realized that the only spray colors I have are walnut, silver or gold. I wanted blue, so I mixed food color with water and sprayed that on. A fair representation of the ocean. I stamped the coral on acetate and heat embossed with white EP, fussy cut the around the outside, and used my Xyron to glue it. Die cut the four shell pieces, colored with SN pens, sponged over with distress ink and formed slightly. Stamped the fish in black and colored with SN pens, covered with Diamond Glaze and fussy cut when it was dry. Die cut the bubbles and the navy mat, then assembled. Glued a piece of twine around the edge of the focal piece. Fun and done!

When I read the MIX challenge this morning, I thought about you and knew you would come up with something awesome! I love your food color ocean, and you did a gorgeous coloring job on the fish! The twine around the edge is perfect - what a great idea!

You do come up with some wonderful, novel techniques. Sea glass, I love that you used it to create that wonderful background with food coloring! The coral looks fabulous on the acetate and love the coloring on the shells and fish. The twine border is the perfect example of your incredible patience! Clever way to create the bubbles!

Wow, this looks amazing! I love the blue created with food coloring! Just goes to show it's completely possible to go with less expensive and specialized materials and get great results! Wonderful combination of stamping and die cuts in this scene (I especially love the lacy look of the coral).

Wow, this card is amazing! I love all the little techniques and things you used to pull it together. Thanks for the suggestion to use food color. I read the challenge and signed because I don't have any purchased sprays. Thanks for sharing!
