I made this western themed card for two of this week's new challenges. The Ways to Use it Challenge, WT535 - Go West! (6/11/15), was to make a western themed card to honor John Wayne. The CAS328 Let the Sunshine In (6/8/15) challenge was to make a sunny card.
This was such a fun card to make! I finally had a reason to use this cute Cowboy stamp that I purchased on impulse several months ago...dittos for the stylized sun from SU Kinda Eclectic. What a relief to get some ink on these stamps and put them to good use on a card!
Because the Cowboy stamp was such a weird length, I ended up making the card base a custom size to fit an envelope I had in my stash. The cowboy panel was made with the discard from cutting the card base. I was using this as a sample, to test out some techniques, but it turned out so well I decided to use it on the card front.
The cowboy panel was stamped with SU Baked Brown Sugar ink and heat embossed with clear detail embossing powder. I used an old SU Cloud template to sponge the sky with blue ink, and then used various green memento inks to sponge the grass/pasture in the lower part of the panel.
I decided to keep the layers to a minimum and opted to stamp the sun shape directly onto the card base using 3 colors of yellow ink, daubed onto the stamp. The cowboy panel was adhered to the card front after the sun was stamped.
I finished the card by popping up the sentiment panel and adding a tiny rhinestone for a bit of sparkle. I also stroked on some Wink of Stella clear glitter ink on the sun rays.
Thanks for swinging by to look at my cowpokes enjoying the sunshine. Cowboy Up!

This is a beautiful layout, I like this size/shape. I do love that sun, that set tempts me purely on account of the sun! Great use of it here to give the feel of sunrise and a fresh new morning full of promise. Super cowboy stamp.

I love the look of your long format card! I need to try this size more myself. Your fence sitters look great with that wide open sky behind them. Great card wonderfully photographed! TFS
