I made this card for a young couple expecting the birth of their first child in June. The young man is an unofficially adopted grandson and very special to me.
I created the card base from heavy white cs and scored the front in half. I cut the patterned layer, scored it and ran it through the 5" Xyron to adhere it to the base, lining up the scores. I reinforced the score mark, but still had some minor cracking of the patterned paper - grrr!
I covered a piece of lighter weight white cs with wide Sookwang tape, cut a piece large enough for the sticker and removed the liner so that I could carefully place the sticker in the center. The liner was place over top and burnished over the sticker to be certain it was tightly adhered. After the liner was removed, the piece was covered with microfine glitter, which I burnished into the adhesive with my fingers. This is a technique I saw years ago in a tutorial from Scrapbooking Made Simple.
I colored the sticker with Spectrum Noir markers by dabbing the color in instead of stroking to prevent damage to the markers. Be careful not to saturate the piece as it can adversely affect the adhesive and leave you with a sticky mess.
I did a partial die cut on the card front using the heart frame. The edge cut through completely, but the inner pieces stayed in place - exactly what I wanted to happen, so that there would be patterned paper showing through all the way around. I cut a matching frame and the baby's name from the cs I had covered with the adhesive and repeated the technique with the glitter. His name was also cut from yellow craft foam. These pieces were adhered with Multi Medium. The little hearts and stars are part of the sticker set, I repeated the process for them and die cut to use as embellishments. The ones on either side of the frame disguise the cracks in the patterned paper.
I will cut a gift card envelope from matching paper and adhere it inside the card, above the baby's name, and top it with a label that says "Welcome to the world".
If anyone has any tips about my cracking issue, please let me know. I have tried it before without adhesive on the fold and the paper buckled, so I'm kind of at a loss...
As always, thanks for looking!

Jody, this is TOO cute for words and it shows the love you have for this to-be-born special boy. The personalization and heart frame are all loving touches and I love the soft green plaid DP that you used with your beautifully colored image.

What a special card Jody! That sticker is adorable and how I love this technique! I also love seeing your unusual folds and what perfect papers for a little boy!
Perfect fix for paper that tends to crack is this. Lightly score it, then flip the paper over, scoring lightly again on the reverse side. This weakens the fibers and it can be folded either way. It also works with heavier cardstock that tends to crack too.

I can see that the little one is going to be as special as the 'unofficial" grandson is, if not more so, from all the heart you poured into his card! This technique is really special and I am glad you included hints on how best to color the microfine glitter without damaging your markers. Love the effect on this adorable teddy. Love the framing and the randomly place stars and circles - your choice in paper is just wonderful!!

You always leave such nice comments on cards, Jody, that I do not know how you have time to make gorgeous cards like this one. I am so goad that I checked your gallery, because I missed this adorable card. That sparkly bear is just too cute. What fun colord you chose. This will be a treasured keepsake for the family.
