This is the second card I made for the WT 527 challenge "Watercolored Background".
I had been playing around with glossy photo paper after Lindsey (The Frugal Crafter) said in one of her YouTube videos that you get fabulous results when coloring your stamp with water based markers and stamping on the glossy photo paper. She's right, but that's a card for a later date ;)
Since the paper was sitting on my table, I decided to see what would happen if you used it for a watercolor background. After using distress inks on the first one (also posted) with some questionable results, I chose to try Gelatos. Scribbled on the Gelatos, sprayed with water and used my fingers to spread the color around. After it looked fairly decent, I moved to my spray box and misted it heavily with yellow shimmer ink spray. I crinkled up some plastic wrap and placed it on top, smooching it around and then leaving it to dry. The shimmer gathered in the creases in the plastic wrap, leaving a very subtle marbled effect. It looks pretty cool, actually!
When it was totally dry, I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it with Spectrum Noir markers.I used an IO border die to cut the edges of the image, the matting layer and the card base. The matting layer is adhered directly to the card base; the image is adhered to a matching craft foam piece for dimension.
I pulled the wires on the ribbon to create the shirring and added it to the left of the image. On a scrap piece of the background, I stamped and colored the butterflies again, and fussy cut them to add dimension to the card. They are adhered with Multi Medium. And for a little sparkle, I touched the flower centers with a Gelly Roll Stardust pen in purple.
I love this image, and like the way the background turned out. The rest of the card - I'm not too sure about. This may be headed to the "Do something else with this!" box.
As always, thanks for looking!

You are an encyclopedia or techniques, Jo! Always something new and different and LOVE these colors on this beautiful Penny Black collage stamp! The shirred ribbon is brilliant and love the complimentary punched lacy border!

I've saved your cards so I can go back to reference them. Wow, to think markers could create something as elegant as this, is totally remarkable. This is gorgeous with that stamp and soft subtle colors. Another work of art came from your craft studio today, Jody Lynn.

Love how you created this background, Jody - creates such a soft and lovely marble look that was perfect for this PB stamp's BG. Using the edge die three times, and shirring your lavender ribbon on the opposite side gives your card Lots of texture already, but I do LOVE the addition of the butterflies as well!! Awesome card!!
