I'm eager to see what everyone else does with this week's colors. This challenge was a hard one for me! Vicki's colors this week are Pacific Point, Marina Mist and Crisp Cantaloupe. This combo doesn't say "flowers" to me, so I came up with this card (substituting Cameo Coral for Crisp Cantaloupe). Dessert option this week was embossing. No dessert for me this week!
I decided I wanted to try my hand at watercoloring, and am going to enter this card in the January challenge at Happy Little Stampers. My first attempts used a technique that Loll Thompson has on her blog. I'm sure it works wonderfully with the right combination of colors, but it didn't work for me with these colors.
My next attempt was very similar to this card, but the focal image was totally out of balance. This led me to remember to design my card on a piece of grid paper, and not fly by the seat of my pants!
I stamped the tree on the grid paper, vertical, but otherwise random placement. Then with a pencil, I sketched where I thought the elements should go around it: The land below the tree, the water line, the sky and the setting sun. Once I had them sketched in place, I drew boundary lines and measured, cut my watercolor paper to size, and duplicated the pencil sketch with my AquaPainter and reinkers.
I'm pretty happy with the result. But, if I were really an artist, I would have figured out how to have the reflection of the setting sun on the water. Suggestions on that, please!
Thanks for stopping by and please join us for this week's Color Challenge!

Hi Barbara. This is absolutely gorgeous. I love your watercoloured scene ... so peaceful and definitely works with these colours. Sorry the technique you followed didn't work for you. I'm glad you persevered and came up with this beauty. There are so many watercolouring techniques and finding the right one for you and that works for your project is key. Great job!! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Happy Little Stampers!
