Thank you Marie for a funny story this week, it is always lovely to see you.
Sorry I am late to the Teaparty. This is my second attempt at making a card for Ernie. I was really happy with the first card, I did a faux metal checkerplate background and stamped "Enjoy the Journey".....then it dawned on me that it wasn't a very appropriate sentiment for an elderly gent who has just gone to the old folks home and is not feeling very chipper about it. Thankfully I had not posted it. Back to the drawing board.
I decided to use the technique from Mondays challenge, which was to do direct inking - ink pad straight onto card. I used glossy card stock and a truckload of distress inks. It looked terrible!!! I turned to my trusty babywipes and before my very eyes the entire card took on a beautilful soft grey metal colour. I then embossed it and finally gave it a few pats with a copper coloured Brilliance dew drop ink pad. I die cut a few cogs and adhered them using a glue stick.
There is so much ink on this card I will probably be up for excess postage. On the plus side though, if Ernie ever decides to do a runner from the old folks home, this card has enough weight in it to knock a hole in the wall.....then I could really send him a card saying, Enjoy the Journey!!
Thank you for looking.

Wow, the effect of your recovered disaster is quite amazing and so beautiful, Susie. And the embossing takes it up a whole 'nother notch. What a wonderful card for Ernie.

This reminds me that it's so much more about stamping, isn't it? It's about caring and sharing, encouraging others who may be discouraged. And your story, the process of how this card came about, brought me laughter!

WOW! Susie, your background is so cool! It may be a "happy accident" but it sure looks like weathered metal to me! Your embossing looks amazing too, then add the gears....it doesn't get more masculine!!! This is wonderful, perfect for Ernie! So glad you kept with it and shared this awesome card!!!!!

It is always an adventure... What a phenomenal card, dear Susie. The texture folder that you chose is brilliant with the metallic finish that you wound up with...and those gears just kick the manly up another notch. Ernie is going to love this! Thanks so much for coming to his Teaparty. Big hugz from New Jersey, my friend!

This is one of my most favorite techniques of all time and it's also my favorite embossing folder! However you achieved your "rust" color on here it sure looks wonderful! I may have to try this, just mix a random bunch of colors and see what happens! Great card for him, Susie!

Great card! Neat emb bkgrd that I've never seen b4. Distress inks do evolve right b4 your eyes, likewise to most Tim Holtz/Ranger products. Glad it turned out so fab. I like your detailed cogs. My die cuts them with much less detail. Surely Ernie will like this masculine, cool card, Susie!
