A couple of weeks ago, Julie said (unfortunately for her) that she'd be MORE than happy to give me advice and/or help when I needed it, and that I should just shoot her an email whenever I liked!
I know, I know. JULIE just became a cautionary tale in dealing with me, didn't she?
When I saw her Delft Tile piece, I knew right then that I HAD to learn how to do it. It's actually one of those great tutorials where it's relatively simple yet produces HUGE effects! So, I used the tutorial (here) Delft Tile Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
and in a relatively short time (2 tries) I had a product I was pretty pleased with! Mine came out a little darker, but I was thrilled with that crisp blue and white look and couldn't WAIT to post it in my gallery! That is, after I took care of the little matter of FINISHING it.
I actually HAVE the identical stamp that Julie used on hers. I'd gotten this large box of unmounted rubber stamps, that were all Asian in design. That's where I'd gotten the poppy urn. So I stamped it and colored it up, but didn't have a panel that looked right. Besides that, dang it, I wanted to at least TRY to do something a little different. And that's where it all started to go wrong.
I couldn't find anything...not one stamp...that made 'sense'. I stamped everything I own in blue on white cardstock, just to see if I had ANYTHING that would suffice. Not a thing.
In desperation, I turned to eBay. I found this great windmill stamp so I ordered it and it came in 2 days ago. By this time, I was sweating a little...I was quickly approaching the deadline. I stamped this image over and over...I tried it as a square, a circle..everything! No dice. I found my SU! set 'Tea Shoppe' and stamped the cup because I'd been looking at everything 'Delft' on the internet, trying to get ideas, and thought it would be cool to put some type of plate or cup...didn't work. Mostly because the cup comes out as a solid blue with some white scrollwork. Too much blue.
This morning, I was at my wits in and said "That's it...I'm putting SOMETHING on this card and finishing it. I'm done."
(Ed. note-That's not EXACTLY what I said. The original version has been (heavily) edited for the general audience.)
I thought it was too bad about the teacup. It was a good size, I was stuck on delft china pieces, and I wished there was some way I could put the windmill on it.
That's pretty much where the cobwebs cleared and I thought "Oh my goodness! Why, I can make that happen! Boy...I sure was a dolt. Why didn't I think of that before? I will fussy cut the stamp image and trace it over the windmill stamp and fussy cut the windmill 'cup' out!"
(Ed. note...Again. Heavily edited. HEA-VI-LY.)
So, here we are. At the end of the day, I think it turned out a pretty decent tribute to Julie. ;)
I do want to say this...Julie is one of my fave people here at SCS. She is VERY funny and she actually DID offer her help. I asked her for advice a day or so ago and she was quick to respond...although I know she's slammed with work, she never made me feel like I was a bother. I adore her work. I relate to her colors and style, and when you combine that artistic talent with an awesome sense of humor and a true willingness to help those that are trying to find their way, you have a person who is leaving one heck of a legacy as she moves through life.
Thank you, Julie! I won't ever be able to look at designer paper without laughing at your 'visitation' comment, and I appreciate ALL of your feedback and help.
Big hugs and much love, sistah! MMWWAAAAAHHH!

What a HUGE success!! Wow, you are so right on the effects of this technique! The tea cup is perfect and fits your theme so beautifully along with the added doily! What a fantastic card and thanks again, for the chuckles in your descriptions!

Awww shucks, Miss Carmen! I'm about 30 shades of blush here. You did a FABULOUS job on this! That windmill absolutely makes that cup perfect. Your tile bg is so lovely and wonderful. I LOVE IT! I'm thinking it's been too long since I've done that tile bg. You've inspired me to try it again.

Ditto everything you said about Julie. Miss Carmen this is absolutely gorgeous, but I must say, you could scribble on a paper bag and it would look great. Your stories always lure me in and your cards add to the fun.
