SCS's wonderful Dina (aka dini) is this week's Queen for the Day - well deserved!!
I just received an order from Impression Obsession with their lovely hollyhock stamp and die, so I was thrilled when I saw cards in Dina's gallery using them. These two of Dina's cards inspired me:
I used the window idea from the first one, and the coloured hollyhocks from the second one.
I was expecting the hollyhock die to fit the hollyhock stamp so that I could stamp first and then die cut, so I was very disappointed when I discovered that the die is smaller than the stamp - what a bizarre thing for Impression Obsession to do when they are identical images!
I had inked up the stamp with Tombow markers and lightly spritzed with water, expecting to be able to cut it out with the die - when I couldn't, I decided to use the stamped image as a background for the die cut image. So then die cut hollyhocks out of white cs and then coloured them with the same Tombow markers, blending the colours with the Dove blender pen. I then glued the die cut ones over the stamped ones.
I set them behind the window die, which I sponged with a bit of Distress Antique Linen to give it contrast and to blend it in with the background paper.
Wish I had this gorgeous stand of hollyhocks right outside my window!

Susan, your card is beautiful and I love the design that you have created from 2 inspirations. The hollyhocks are fantastic....and who wouldn't love this view out their window??

This is a cool card! Love the window scene - and the 'wallpaper' on the inside - so cool!!

Hollyhocks are fabulous! I love the way you combined the stamp and die images - I hadn't realized they weren't the same size - with those narrow stems, though, they'd be so hard to align, and silhouetted die cuts are just as easy to color directly. Your layering is perfect too - since flowers closer to the window would be brighter and clearer than ones further out. That window die is gorgeous, and the wallpaper is just so believable! Gorgeous scene - thanks for visiting my gallery and thinking of me!

Some of the Penny Black stamps and dies are the same way. That's really odd, I think! But you made both work together beautifully! My Mom grew hollyhocks when I was a child and I always remember her when I see them. Happy memories.
