When I went to school we had two essays to write in the first week. One was 'How I spent my summer vacation' and 'What I want to be when I grow up'!..sound familiar? The image is a copy of a page from a primary reader that was my Dad's, published by the Ministry of Education in 1933!! In those times reading was the most important skill a child could obtain especially where he grew up deep in the country. A lot of kids didn't learn to read at all...it was a different time so learning to read definitely made the world your oyster!! The label is from spellbinders with an embossed greeting. I added a chalkboard effect by sponging white pigment ink on a masked area then doodling with a chalk pencil and white acrylic paint.

So cute, Sue...and a memory-evoker. I had "Tom" and "Alice" and their dog, "Jip" in my primary readers. : ) Terrific retro look to your delightful card.

Sue, this is precious and certainly brings back many memories of my first year of reading. One of my favorite phrases in my reader was '"see Spot run" - lol. Thanks for the memories :-)
