I was not planning to participate in today's Way to Use It Challenge - WT490 Put a map on your card (7/31/14). That was before I came upon this darling little map garland hiding out in a drawer of stickers.
Seeing these little maps made me think of school, which reminded me of an incredible card by Cindy Gilfillan (frenziedstamper). Here it is: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ga...2538965?&si=A+ Chalkboard Frame
Her chalkboard frame with the pennant banners served as the inspiration for this card.
I decided to keep it simple and stamp the SU Hardwood background on a card front and use a Nestie rectangle die to cut the opening for the legs on the chalkboard. The chalkboard cs was cut with another rectangle die and I used a chalk marker to hand write the sentiment on board. The garland was attached with dimensionals and I tied little bows using crewel yarn to finish the ends. The small map heart was made from a leftover circle from the garland.
This was such a fun card to make, even though it didn't end up being what I intended. It was supposed to be a birthday card for a friend who will be starting her first full time teaching job in August. You will notice this card says Congrats, not Happy Birthday! Well, that would be because I flubbed the writing on the only other chalkboard panel I had prepared and this one was useable....and so it goes in the world of card making. A birthday card becomes a graduation card!
Thank you for stopping by to look at my Chalkboard map card. And a special thanks to Cindy Gilfillan for sharing her A+ Chalkboard Frame card!
