This is not a happy beach..... thousands died here on June 6th, 1944. My watercolor shows Pointe du Hoc which was the highest point between Omaha and Utah beaches which were the beaches where the American forces landed. I've been on an extended vacation in France and England and visiting the invasion beaches of Normandy with an expert guide was one of the highlights of my trip. Sword, Gold, and Juno were the beaches on which the British and Canadian forces suffered great losses as well. My scoring is two vertical lines to stress the height of the cliffs and the two horizontal lines for the exposed vast horizontal planes of the other beaches.

It is so very lovely to see you back, my friend. Your trip sounds wonderful and totally fascinating. My wonderful Uncle Bruce survived Juno. Your watercolouring is beautiful, Sallie!

A very touching and sombre choice today Sallie, never hurts to be reminded does it? .... If you visited Stonehenge on your vacation you could have popped in for tea - would have been wonderful to have met you!

I'm doing the happy dance to see that you are back!! YEAH. Such a great card....it is a sad place where many died and your card pays homage to that frightful time. My dad was overseas for 2 1/2 yrs in the war....sometimes they had no idea of the casulities that were taking place in another area.
Hope you had a fab trip.
hugs mf

No, it's not a happy beach, but it was necessary to win the war. I, too, think of so many who were called and died, without question. I love your watercolor, though. Despite the history, it's still such a beautiful place and you did it justice!
