No, this is not a kit. The base is the smallest of a set of paper mache houses from Hobby Lobby. In the store they sell them individually around holiday time, but on-line, they come in a set of three. I just posted the largest version a few minutes ago (Christmas house). There are no patterns for any of the houses so I had to make them myself. It wasn't hard and once you've done it you can use it over and over. Cut a piece of typing paper in the general shape of the gable or roof and then use a bone folder to score lines for an exact fit. The sides are straight cuts to match width and height. Once the front and sides are cut, I traced where the windows are and cut out the opening. I transferred the typing paper pattern onto 110 lb cardstock for my permanent pattern. I painted the window panes, corners, roof lines, under side of the roof, gable edges and entire chimney with MS beetle black paint. Since there are slight variations in these areas between houses it saved having to make a pattern for each house and added some nice accents. The images are hand stamped from a variety of stamp sets. The top comes off so you can add an LED candle. I didn't take a picture of the inside before I donated this to a charity auction. It was painted black and I stamped and fussy cut a skeleton and glued it to the back wall--you could see it when the LED was on. And the 3/8 ribbon is glued to the top portion. I did not put paper there, I just painted it black. Sorry for the long reply--hope this answers all your questions.
