When I saw that Nancy (stiz2003) was made Queen for the Day, I was thrilled. She really deserves it, not just for her cards, but also for the lovely comments she leaves on people's cards.
because I had just bought the bird stamp she used and it seemed a great chance to ink it up (and also take the card over to Darnell's blog for her "Never Before Used Stuff") challenge:
I kept the bird from Nancy's card but changed the colours and cut it out with the matching die. Like Nancy, I used a dp border and a script background but changed the colours and orientation. Instead of a stamped branch, I used a die cut branch. And changed the theme to Christmas.
I agree with Nancy that it takes some practice to use the Local King technique of colouring their stamps with markers - I used their brand of glossy cs for the bird as it definitely turns out better on glossy rather than regular cs.
I stamped my script on regular white cs but it looked too stark so sponged the edges with Distress Antique Linen.
For Darnell's "Never Before Used Stuff" challenge, I used the new bird stamp and die, the new markers, and a piece of old dp I'd never cut into.
It's also for the June theme challenge for the SCS Christmas Card Challenge - make a masculine Christmas card.

How lovely Susan! I have that stamp too and almost used it for my card for Nancy as well. In the end I chose another one. I love your pine bough and bird combination! They look like they were made for each other. What a nice Christmas card this makes. Beautiful colouring of the bird. I agree that a little practice is required but what a nice effect it makes in the end! TFS

Susan, I have been coveting that bird and die set forever! You've done a gorgeous job with it! Really beautiful card, and a fitting tribute to Queen Nancy!

Not only is that my newest favorite stamp but I also do Christmas cards all year long but not nearly as many as you do! Susan, I'm so honored that you cased my card. Now I'm going to case YOUR card as a future Christmas card! Thank you SO very much!
This is an awesome CASE in honor of Nancy's terrific card, Susan! You created such depth from your beautifully colored bird, then the branch, then the text, then the bp, and then the card! And great texture, too, especially with the rustic twine attaching your label!
Thank you so much for following me and for joining my NBUS Challenge! It is appreciated! Hugs, Darnell
