Tiffany's challenge this week in the Mix-Ability forum is to create a mixed media sandy shore. We can use any technique, so I went with watercolor.
The image I painted is from Unity Stamps, by artist Phyllis Harris. I love her little scenes, and this one is so melancholy. The sunset made the light direction fun to play with to, which is something I don't always take time to do.
I used Inktense Blocks for some texture in the sand - if you're familiar with the Sanded Pencil Background technique I shared a couple of weeks ago, the concept is the same, but so much easier to do with the blocks than a pencil point. The sentiment is from a set I designed for Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.

Ditto Linda's comment. Dina, I love the image, and you did a wonderful job with the light direction (something I have real trouble with). But more than that, I love the sentiment. I remember sitting outside in Phoenix back in the 60's when light pollution wasn't as bad as it is now. There were a million stars in the desert sky and I missed my husband so much (during Viet Nam). Both the image and sentiment sum up my feelings during that time. A very moving piece for me. Love that sanded pencil technique for added interest. : )
