Altering anything is something I thought I'd never do but what fun this was. A friend was my guest for a mini craft vacation and encouraged me to try this. She got her ideas from photos from Artful Maven and Technique Junkie of altered boxes. John (DH) built us wood boxes. I used ranger foil sheets and metal hardware store tape on the top per the video in TLC438 after cutting the letters on my Klic N Kut. the sides were embossed with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. Black paint was then applied and wiped off. John then added the hardware for us. Inka Gold in Copper was rubbed on in spots although the photo does not show it. Lots and lots of hot fix pieces were adhered to look like rivets. They were glued on one by one with Art Institute glue. The Ranger foil was extremely fragile and a lot of patching was necessary since even the embossing folder tore it. A better photo of the top and inside will be posted separately. Sorry about the inadequate photo. I had a lot of trouble getting one.
Thank you for looking.

WOW! WOW! WOW! This is so amazing that I had to use capital letters and exclamation points for my "wows". I am speechless (and that is unusual for me). This looks like a very expensive box from an antique store, and if you charged for your time and creativity it would be priceless. A new family heirloom. Right into my favs and my pinterest board of things I have to try. This is fantastic (can you tell I really love it?)

Nancy, this is awesome. It looks like a real metal box. You alter so well. Can't leave out the work your husband did, either. Wow! It's a super altered piece.

Nancy, your talents are numerous! This looks like an treasure...but a personalized one...that you found in some small European antique shoppe. Your work with the metal sheets truly floors me. You have a very handy/crafty DH as well....that domed lid is no 1-2-3! What a treasure your friend must have too. TFS

WONDERFUL-looking altered box, Nancy! LOVE all of the emb impressions, as well as the color distress. If you haven't taken a peek, check out Andy Skinner's work.
Nancy, you are a natural. Period. Your box is beyond belief! You nailed the look - steampunk steamer trunk for all your treasures. Tim Holtz would be jealous of this beauty. ;-) Seriously, I look forward to more of your off the planet marvelous creations. You are ROCKIN!!!
