I wanted to surprise my good friend Detelinka with a birthday gift, so I made this lap quilt, which covers a recycled baby quilt. I used a vintage style quilting pattern- Dresden Plates- and a mini iron to get the points. I tacked down the shapes with thread and safety pins, then added embroidery floss later to several points of the outer edges of the plates. This is my first precise quilt, and I am quite pleased with it.

So pretty Julia, you've done a fabulous job... and your "first one" like this, it is amazing. I love that you used all of the different colors and patterns. I haven't quilted in years, I gave it up when I started rubber stamping. I do miss it but I haven't the room for another craft in my life. Great job my dear and thank you for sending me your finished results....

WOW, what an achievement to have made and finished a quilt. You are so kind to give it to your friend as well. I have always wanted to make a quilt, but I don't think I have the patience. Congratulation Julia!! Nice job!!
