I have always wanted to participate in a Virtual Scrapbook Weekend so I was happy that I had a free weekend for the VSBN14Feb! The theme is Candy Hearts which has proven to be the perfect inspiration to start my youngest daughter's first year of college scrapbook.
The first challenge was to use one little word as your inspiration. You can use any word but Dream was one of the suggestions and it was the inspiration for the theme I selected for the whole book.
Allie (she prefers Alex but I like Allie...) wanted to go off to college, but she was really unsure about how it was going to be and was pretty scared. She only had a few friends going to this school (University of Alabama in Birmingham) and the school has an awful lot of smart people majoring really difficult fields. She wants to go into business and wasn't really sure that people would take her seriously when they were going to be neurosurgeons. Thankfully, it has turned out to be a dream come true for her. She is only an hour and a half away so she can come home when she needs to, she has found that people take her serious, and she had found a group of girls she now calls her sisters.
I was not in a sorority and never understood them really, but through looking at Allie's pictures and hearing her talk about her friends, I realize I really missed something big! She has 80 girls who have her back at school - they help her study, cry with her and then cheer her up when she is sad, celebrate with her when she achieves something, and grow with her as she takes these transitional and very important steps to the rest of her life.
So this is the cover page of the album I started this weekend. I call it Allie's Dream Album.
I am using all Kraft bases for the album and trying to stay with red, black, white and cream where I can. My dream title comes from the Text Cloud and Song bird digital stamp by Dawn Collins (available at Squigglefly) and I added some extra text to make it work for Allie's album. I added little UAB and AOII words in the hearts. My picture is not that great as I am not good with scrapbook page pictures, but this looks totally awesome in person.
