After the mess created by my first mix card I surprised myself by making another. After looking at the other cards in the challenge gallery (all of you did such fantastic cards) I realized that there is a common thread to this technique - that moment when you are about to give up and throw the mess away. First I spreyed blue and green dylusions sprey over a circle stencil - awful result..big blobs of color. Tried stenciling yellow and green over the entire card. Even worse looking. Stenciled modeling paste through the hexagon stencil in upper and lower corners - I like how the modeling paste takes on the ink color from underneath. Even the yellow chevron pattern showed through. This was going to be a water scene card but I ended up stenciling leaves. Stamped, colored with copice and cut out the butterfly and glued the body down. Used pop dots to pop up the wings.

I love the contrast of the butterfly against your background - I can see how it would have made a great watery background - but I love the drama of the leaves stencilled across it.
Hmm - maybe the clear modelling paste works better over "made" backgrounds. When I tried it on DP for some challenge I didn't like at all how it came out, and since then I've been mixing it with some colour, but I love the amazing dappled dimensional look the clear paste has given here.

Gorgeous card with the mixed media. I do like the leaves and that gorgeous butterfly pops out there in a spectacular way. When I spray with Dylusions spray or something similar, I put it in a box and spray above the cardstock I'm working with. It tends to let the spray fall gently and not get the blobs.
I do love working with the modeling paste, though. Your colors look super.

Yes, that is very true. You have to work 'past the mess' as we say in art journaling, before you can start to see what will emerge. I'm so glad you kept working because this turned out gorgeous! I especially like the contrast between the background and the butterfly. Thank you so much for playing the Mix-ability challenge!

Perseverance is your strong suit! I'm the throw it away type but am improving on that. What a fabulous card in bold, bright colors and LOVE the way you shaded your gorgeous butterfly!
