Today's challenge was to draw inspiration from a favorite book. Well I'm a HUGE fan of books so it was hard to narrow it down. I would have pages of lists of my "favorite" book. So I decided to pick one of them..The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's an amazing book , takes place in Nazi Germany about a girl who cannot read but is taught by her foster father to read. She shares this love of books with a Jew who is hidden in their basement. The chalkboard on this represents new words that her father would write on the basement wall. I loved this book!! And as is not always the case, I would recommend the current movie of The Book Thief..it's very good. Happy reading to all!

I, too, so loved reading this book, Polly, though the subject matter was not pretty. But a triumph of the Spirit. Thank you for honoring this book with your beautiful detailed card. A feast for the eye.

You and Anne both mentioning this book - now I've just got to see if they have it in the library. I'd not even heard of it. I like the story behind your card, and the way the sentiment is on an embossed rectangle it even looks like a book!

Wow. guess there's gonna be lots of us going to the library! I just finished "Hitler's Furries"...again with Nazi Germany, but not a pretty book to read...it's about the German women and what they did...it was a hard read because of the reality of what really went on...enough.
Your card...she reminds me of Anne Frank and your story and depiction are wonderful, Polly!!! I think I may have to read this one!

I have always been interested in this period of history, particularly because of the great spirit and honor of those who lived and died in the Holocaust.....have had many conversations with survivors.......I taught middle school and had a whole collection of stories (appropriate to their age and interest) available for reading at all times......however, I have not read this one.....will have to add it to my list......thanks for sharing.....it seems to be a popular book today
