Kathleen's challenge really tugged at my heartstrings.
I think my mom's dad was one of the greatest men to walk the earth. A clock and rifle maker by hobby, he was meticulous, even when being extremely artistic. He always wore a suit and tie, except when working in his shop.
For his job, he worked for the Navy and went around the world designing and overseeing the installation of clean drinking water systems in third world countries.
And what did I love the most? That he was the Dr. Doolittle of Annapolis. He took in a baby racoon when my mom was little. His dog Spicy, who I never met, lived on in his stories. He walked onto his expansive back deck which looked out over the Chesapeake Bay and hand fed a flying squirrel and numerous birds who came to know him as a friend. I'll never forget that little squirrel swooping onto the porch to be fed treats.
A man that is kind to animals is the best sort of man. He was as tough as they come, but his soft heart is what I loved the most.

Oh my gosh Lydia! You are tugging on my heartstrings! My "granddaddy" (mother's father) was also in the Navy and one of his hobbies was making clocks! I have one he made and another that was one that was special to him.
Also, I completely agree about your statement of kindness towards animals!
Sorry, I was just so excited and had to share...Your card is beautiful!!! I love the image with the red and how your image panel is in the shape of a heart! LOVE the white high lights and am trying to figure out, is that the negative space or did you use a gel pen? Either way, your high lighting is fantastic! Great bit of script just behind and what gorgeous DP in the background!
Truly love it all! Thank you so much for sharing about your grandfather and making your very special card to honor him!!!
Awww! That's the sweetest of remembrances! Thanks for sharing! I agree wholeheartedly with your statement of the best kind of man. I have one of those kind! Your card is beautiful! I love the heart with the beautiful image and white highlights! Just gorgeous!
