What a fun technique! I followed the instructions except instead of dye ink/waterbrush I used my water based Tombow markers.
After embossing,whitewashing and coloring w/ the markers, I added a die cut sentiment and some whitewashed sunflowers on the large layer. Some white buttons were used to fill in the empty space beside the image.

What an adorable image and love your work with him too! Never would have thought to use the markers and how wonderfully they worked over the white! Thanks for sharing!
