electric Paperie is sponsoring an Mixed Media Paintbrush Challenge on their blog. When I first read about the challenge I envisioned a hula girl in a grass skirt. I roughed up the bristles to form the skirt. I painted the brush handle with some wood refinisher stain in a cherry color to form the trunk of her palm tree. The fronds were fashioned from a Cuttlebug die and embossing folder combo set. An amber bead wrapped in coiled wire was used for the coconut. I found the image of the hula girl on the internet. Her lei was fashioned from tiny flowers I punched from a Punch Bunch corner punch. I sculpted them a bit to add dimension and used yellow Stickles for the centers. Her hair flower was punched and dry embossed with a set of Nellie Snellen punch & embosser. The leaf was cut from a die cut made by a branch die by C. C. Designs.
I titled her Kuma Hula Shasta. Kumu in Hawaiian means teacher. Shasta is an amazing hula teacher who teaches hula to my daughter and granddaughter. She is a very talented lady and highly respected member of the Midwest Hula Association. She shares her talent and love of Hawaiian culture throughout Chicagoland and the Midwest.

Paulette, this is the prettiest thing. Is everything in your house decorated? I mean like your toothbrush and your can opener and such? I think this is incredible.

Love, love this!
The hula skirt idea is brilliant.
I love how you added your trademark mini
flowers to make this your own.
Good luck. You nailed this challenge.
I see another win in your future
