Have been seeing these cards for awhile now where only a small portion of the image is colored, but tonight was the first time I had the nerve to give it a try.
My inspiration for the card was this cutie by inglishrea. Those who know me best know that I would have really gotten twitchy if I only colored a wee bit of the image AND had that much white space staring back at me, so I switched to a 4.25" square card instead and switched out the stripes for the black and white checked paper. Stayed with the robot theme, using my Flourishes love bot. Added a simple "happy birthday" and called it done.
Coloring done with Copics R35-R37-R39 and YG01, YG03. Went over the hearts with a clear spica pen to add a little sparkle.
Will be giving this to my significant other later this week.

OMG Debbie, so sweet and yes, challenging! Your checkered paper, colored hearts, perfect thin strip of red and simple layout really makes this style of card work! TFS

Super cute Debbie... I used this technique this morning... I don't use it often, but it is a nice time saver as well. I think the checkerboard dp compliments this technique beautifully. Well done
