This is for Mixability Challenge 18 - make a simple design with markers or paint and then outline with a pen. I started by doing a wrinkle free Distress Ink BG (Worn Lipstick, Rusty Hinge, Tea Dye, Spiced Marmalade, and a few others I threw in there and can't recall), then sponged a stencil on it, and stamped over everything in two Cover-A-Card BG stamps (Spatter, Wispy) using more Distress Ink. Then I cut out the part of the Distress piece I wanted to use and stamped the large BG image (from Paper Artsy) onto it in Versafine Onyx, to one side. That left me room to use acrylic paints to make three blobby, floral-esque shapes in a mix of pink, coral and white, which I then outlined and detailed using a black gel pen. For the leaves I sponged some glossy brochure paper with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink and then sponged over it with Peeled Paint using a Crafters' Companion stencil that had a border of leaves. I cut out small groups of leaves and placed them around the flowers, shifting them around until I was satisfied, and finally glued them down, then outlined them with the same pen. I really felt I wanted a bit more happening on the card, so I got out my favorite, all-purpose, great-on-everything dragonfly stamp and matching die (Hero Arts) and stamped and die cut three of the fellows using the palest edges of the leftover part of my wrinkle free Distress piece. (I say always do your Distress pieces way bigger than you think you need, because then you can choose exactly which part you like best for your card front and you'll have leftovers in case you need them, which I did!). I liked the tone on tone look of them against the card because they didn't compete with the flowers, but I still wanted one more pop of color, so I added some aqua twine across the top and glued one of my dragonflies across it to pull the whole thing together. At least that was the idea.
This challenge made me wish I could draw! But I'm not an artist, more of a designer, and those flowers turned out better than I thought they would (the proof being that the picture is not of a card in a trashcan). How I anguish over putting hand to card! So thank you for continually making me do it!
Thanks for looking!
