This is a gift for one of our graduating seniors. She's a girly kind of cowgirl, so the tooled leather-look vinyl was a perfect choice.
I started with a cream colored piece of mat board. There is actually a flourish stamp in the upper right corner, but by the time I finished adding all the layers it disappeared, lol. Next layer is a rough coat of thinned acrylic paint, then crumpled tissue adhered with Mod Podge. I stamped the Hero Arts butterflies with VersaFine Onyx Black, and as usual, started sponging Distress Inks before one of them was quite dry. I just smeared out edges of the whole thing and layered some gesso over it, and heat set the other before continuing, lol. I used VersaMark to stamp various background stamps and heat embossed with antique gold ep.
The background for the flowers was was stamped with VersaMark and brushed with Perfect Pearls.
I die cut the flowers (TH) in both the vinyl and craft foil sheets to which I had adhered Scor-Tape, peeled the liner and attached the vinyl to the metal so I could shape the flowers. The flowers and swirl were lightly painted with acrylic paints, and glazed with Silks Acrylic Glazes. The metallic colors are just gorgeous! The butterfly is an Elizabeth Craft Designs die, the swirl is part of a Sizzix holly die.
The initial is leather, I embossed it with an embossing folder for texture and then heat embossed it with the gold ep. I overheated it in some spots to darken the embossing and add a little more of a rustic look.
This design was cased from another piece I created for an earlier MIX challenge, and meets the MIX17 challenge to use smooth (heat embossing) and rough (textured vinyl).
As always, thanks for looking!
