This is for MIX 14. We were challenged to do something we ordinarily wouldn't do, using at least two mediums. I gave myself a special challenge for this as well, and I consider the result only a partial success (meaning I'm not happy with it) but will leave it up in the gallery because, hey, you can't win 'em all. I decided I would do a stamped card using no stamps, but only using things I had in my studio as stamps. Here's what I used -
The background - a panel of plastic corrugated stuff that something was shipped shrinkwrapped to - I cut a small square of it, folded it and inked the edge (the corrugations) with Versafine Onyx and repeatedly stamped it in all directions on white CS. I then covered all with Tea Dye Distress Ink.
The Flower - Corrugated cardboard, curled so that the corrugations made a petal shape. Stamped to make a six petal flower (which took, like, fifteen tries, duh).
The flower center - The bottom of a glue stick, stamped on black with white pigment ink, dots applied with a pointed cotton swab.
The leaves - the bottom of a White-Out bottle, stamped using white pigment ink, with the edge of a piece of chipboard used to make "veins".
The green vertical piece - the end of one of my water pens, stamped in Versafine Onyx and then colored with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
The tan horizontal piece - A paperclip, attached to an acrylic block with double-sided tape and stamped on white with Versafine Onyx, then colored with Antique Linen Distress Ink.
The two Hello's - Hand written in gel pen (my second medium) on Hawaiian Shores CS (PTI) which had been stamped with the edge of a dry sponge.
The hand lettering is the part of the piece I chose as a thing that I really don't like to do and never do. I don't like my handwriting. I know I ought to try to do it so I'll get better at it, though, so this challenge was good for me.
The words are much more readable in person. They seem to have photographed badly, like an optical illusion. Ah well.
It actually took two complete tries to make this card. The first one ended up with a really drab color palette so I tried to fix it and in doing so utterly ruined it. A few tears were shed, but really it was the Universe doing me a favor. Better to start again. This one is actually an improvement.
Probably should have challenged myself to do something without a FLOWER! Maybe next time.
Okay, 'nuff said. Thanks for looking!

My word, Rachel, you were so creative with this! I'm amazed at all the different textures and patterns you found to stamp with. I've used bubble-wrap, wine corks and corrugated card (but not curled, like yours), but your paperclips are simply amazing. My favourite of all is the background, though! I'm with you on not liking my handwriting. Or any drawing on a card, which is why I pushed myself into a late entry for last week's doodle challenge.
I'm sorry take one ended up as trash, but take two is amazing, and I'm sure you'd learned along the way.

I am totally impressed with your homemade stamps :-) Your collage card turned out beautifully. I have to tell you...my card took 2 days off and on and I did take a 2 hr. nap when I finally was done :-) TFS your challenge!

Rachel, how can you be disappointed with this? It is creatively awesome! I smiled big when I opened it from the gallery. And I like the flower - a lot! Wonderful execution of some terrific thought processes - your creativity continues to amaze me!

WoW, what a terrific challenge you created for yourself...and completed fabulously! Super used of the glue stick base...love all the little lines and the paperclips are terrific! It all comes together superbly...including your handwriting! Perhaps you are looking at it too closely...I can't see one thing I would consider changing.

You really took stamping to a new level...I love the idea of using found items as stamps (the paper clip is inspired!)..I think this could be a theme for a challenge..perhaps it should be suggested to one of the hosts..I love your card..really fun and clever idea!!
