The Mixability challenge for this week was to use metal with a coloring medium, plus the option of sanding. This was indeed the hardest mixability challenge so far. After spending several hours looking through the Mix9 gallery and reading what others had done, I spent more hours trying acrylic paint, reinkers, Gesso, Marvy markers, and finally Copic markers to add some color to several different pieces of embossed foil. I ended up having to trim this foil-over-cs piece, so the edges are raw and can easily be pulled up even though I tried to seal them with Glossy Accents. I tried sanding one of the failed pieces, but it looked awful, so decided not to do that option. I consider it a victory that I finally got a usable piece. I was sooo close to giving up!
My friend Sharon (smadson) is this week's QFTD, and I made this as a second case of one of her cards – this one as I thought her embossed panel would work great for Mix9. I used the same ef but added gold ep to the flower centers. I stayed with a similar yellow polka dot ribbon, but attached it differently and added the two brads. Also stayed with yellow cs base and the same sentiment (computer generated) in a different shape.

Wow! Val you are tenacious! I am glad you kept at it, because it is just so pretty. Love your bird and the grass on your foil. Great effect. I feel so honored that you CASED a second one of my cards. I love that EF. It really adds to it to color the flower centers, I think. I like the brads here too. Great job on this technique.

You are so talented! I love that idea of the gold inside the flowers on the ef, and that image is awesome! This is just beautiful!

We me your experimenting sounds perfect. I feel that is what theses challenges are about...Learning what products can do and what combinations work together wonderfully. And it looks to me like you found the homerun with your results!

Your determination paid off, Val! This is really lovely! That focal image is just beautiful! And I love what you did to the flower centers on the embossed BG. I have that EF and never thought to do anything like that!
