I made two cards for the Mix6 challenge to use Gesso and newsprint. I tried to find some interesting newsprint, but it didn't matter because the Gesso covers most of it.
First I crinkled the newsprint and smoothed it out, then tore a smaller piece of paper and Gesso'd it over the first. IRL this does add a little texture. Next I brushed Gesso all over the newsprint with a sponge brush. After it dried, I used a brayer and several yellow and orange inks to cover the whole area. Then I stamped the background. So far, so good. Then, using a stencil, I used Gesso again to add the floral images. I should have planned that step better so I would have had a space for a sentiment piece. Finally attached the newspaper to a mat which I edged with the tiny hearts punch and attached all to my card. I tried placing a small sentiment, but decided not to cover up the stenciled pattern. I might end up adding one later.
I'm not real happy with the technique, but as always, I'm glad I tried it. IRL you can see the wrinkles and bumps from crunching it. It looks kind of nice if I back away from it.
Okay, so what are we doing next Friday?

What a unique background! I finally bought some gesso to join some of the fun! I love how this turned out and love the texture of the added newsprint! Thanks for the inspiration! I did get a chuckle out of your description too!
