My Chinese grad student and I made this card on our lunch break at work. (Stamping at work, so fun!) She wanted to make a Chinese New Year card for her grandparents. We first decided on a design by looking at images of premade cards on the internet. She liked the ones with Chinese lanterns, but not the ones with snakes (this is the year of the snake), so we decided to use this ornament image to make Chinese lanterns. She heat embossed with gold on Real Red card stock and then cut it out by hand since we didn’t have a Bigshot at work. The branch is from a retired set, Garden Silhouettes, and she colored it with Rose Red, Gumball Green and Soft Suede Markers (coloring directly on the stamp). She also wrote “happy” and “spring” with a versamarker and heat embossed that in gold. She was delighted with how it turned out!
The envelope is stamped with versamark and then heat embossed with gold. Then we colored in the open areas with a real red marker and used a paper towel to carefully wipe away any excess ink on the embossed areas.
