Okay, it only took me 5 days to complete this card - lots going on. BUT I had the bg completed the first day of the CC. Love this new found technique and it is right here on SCS.
The bg was made by running wax paper through EF and then ironing on white cs. The wax will cause your sponging to resist, so the design shows up on your card. You can see the tutorial here:

You really have been doing some creative bg techniques, Barb....and this is another lovely one. Love your pattern to go with you old vintage card. A terrific masculine card.
