Hello everyone! ItÂ’s time for another Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge! A while back I was asked to be the Guest Designer for the Timeless Tuesday challenge this month. This week the challenge is Deck the Tree! You need to create an ornament or 3D project to decorate a Christmas tree! Well, I thought about this one quite a while before I finally decided what I would doÂ…but before we get into that, let me invite you to play along with us. You can find out all of the details here: (http://flourishes.org/category/chall...eless-tuesday/ ). Make sure you link up your project for a chance to win a prize! Yay! Now, on to my projectÂ…
I decided to attempt a shaker ornament. I have never made either an ornament or a shaker card so I thought this would be a good project to tackle. I knew I wanted to use the adorable stamp set called Warm Winter Wishes. Isn’t he just the cutest little snowman? So I stamped this little guy with Tuxedo Black ink from Memento onto Flourishes Classic White cardstock, colored with Copics, then fussy cut. Next I die cut two Kraft oval parts using Floral Ovals by Spellbinders. I also used the deckled oval and the large oval dies to make my frame layers. I dry embossed a portion of the frame using the Snow Burst embossing folder from Stampin’ Up! Next, I cut a strip of thin chipboard (from the back of one of my 12x12 paper pads), scored it into three equal columns down the length of the strip and then folded to make a little shelf to set my front and back floral oval die cuts. I needed something to give me enough width to allow for my shaker material and I was afraid that it would take too much foam tape to build it up enough so I resorted to this and I think it worked out very well. I did have to take my scissors and cut little notches along the strip edges so I could form the strip into an oval shape and adhere the front and back portions of my ornament. I added a little red and white striped paper for my background then adhered my little snowman down. I added some small cream, clear, and white buttons for my “snow”. For the window material I had to use a clear box top. I could not find a transparency sheet to save my life so I just cut out a section of the clear box top left over from an ornament that was given to me and layered it with my frame to create my window. I sponged my frame with some white ink to give it a frosty look and make the embossed snowflakes really stand out. Finally, I was able to die cut these sweet little snowflakes, cover them with glitter, adhere them to my assembled ornament and add more buttons. I also added a few little gems on the frame and topped it off with a big red gingham bow.
WhewÂ….I hope my explanation makes sense! LOL! Word to the wiseÂ….use really good adhesive! I used lots of Scor Tape and it has held it together very well. I took the picture with this propped on my tree and now realize that I never added my string to hang it from a branch. Perfect! LOL! Nothing like ending my little stint as guest designer with a little boo boo, right? Oh well, I think you get the idea and I will be adding some string to hang this on my tree. This will definitely be a wonderful reminder of my time with the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Design Team and I will think of all of these wonderful ladies each year when I unwrap this ornament and place it on my tree. I cannot thank you enough for the invitation to join you or the support and encouragement I have received along the way. You ladies are the best! I also hope that all of you have a wonderful holiday filled with love and laughter. May you make many memories to cherish in the years to come!
