I made this card for my son; his 35th birthday is at the end of the month. In a departure from my usual "play around with everything in the studio and see if any of it looks good" method of card creating, I approached this project with a lot of decisions already made. I knew I wanted to use this stamp, and I knew I wanted to use part of a large wrinkle-free distress piece I had made and then stenciled over, and I knew I wanted the CS colors to be Summer Starfruit, Midnight Muse and PTI's Plum Pudding. My son is an artist, a musician and a working chef, so I wanted the card to express my more "art-house" side, and I wanted to give him everything I had in terms of technique: wrinkle-free distress, stenciling, dry embossing, powder embossing, embossed vellum, wrapped thread, the works. I use a Versamarker to emboss parts of the crown in gold, and created a number 35 to glue over the central number. The three gold-embossed stars are Tim Holtz. I really loved making this card! And I know my son completely gets what I do and that none of my energy and work will be lost on him. You can't ask for more!
Thanks for looking!

That's a fun collage stamp - I could look at the details for a long time. My firs thought was it was a magpie, but I don't think it is. I like that you were able to work the stamp to highlight his birthday age, and love the stencilled distress strip. A chef son - lucky you! I used to work as a cook for private families, but gave it up when I stopped enjoying cooking at home.
