The juice in one stalk of sugarcane is equal to a cube of white sugar, but it wasn't as sweet as we had expected.
Our guide had worked in the fields so was very knowledgeable.
Hawaii's sugar workers are the highest paid agricultural workers in the world.
We were advised to wear dark colored clothing as everything gets stained with the red dirt.
We each got a turn using the machete to cut our own piece of sugarcane.

Would this be the 2 hour tour in Kauai - Gaylords? And electric dishwasher detergent will get the red dirt out if you soak long enough. See your great page even brought back memories for ME. Thanks so much

This was in Kaumakani, Kauai; but the tour was through Gay & Robinson Tours of their own sugarcane field and production facilities. The only things we got the red dirt on was our shoes, but we didn't mind.
