For my dear friend and neighbor who is fabulous at all crafts, including quilting. I wanted to make something different. Lots of work, but nothing terribly hard, just time consuming. Great way to use up scraps.
It is really cool to flip though - I need to post a video to do it justice.
Lots of versions of this on the web - mostly based on 6"x3". Mine is bigger - uses 4 pieces of 8 1/2" x 4 1/4 card stock, each piece scored at 2 1/8" from the short end. Fold the scores both ways and crease thoroughly before you assemble. I used score tape - you want strong and permanent for the base. My card has six 4 1/4 square ares to decorate, ten areas at 4 1/4 x 2 1/8, and eight areas at 2 1/8 square. My mats were 3 3/4 square, 3 3/4 x 1 3/4, and 1 3/4 square respectively. (The math is a tad bit off - I wanted to use my 1 3/4 square punch - should have been 1 5/8 if I was precise about having 1/4 white space all the way around, but it looks fine)
Here are several links for those who want to give it a go.

http://dawnsstampingthoughts.typepad...ending-ca.html Here's a video. I made a larger card, using 2 sheets of 8.5" square. You cut them at 4.25", then score at 2 1/8 from each end. That way I had enough space on the square areas to make a 3 3/4 mat. I will try to edit the main pic with my measurement adjustments.
